AXA appoints French political adviser Boone as Chief Economist
French political adviser, Laurence Boone, has been appointed by AXA Group as Chief Economist and Head of Research at AXA IM, as current Chief economist Eric Chaney is set to retire.
Ms Boone will begin her new role in March as moves on from her current position as a special adviser to the French president, François Hollande, on European economic and financial affairs. Laurence was previously chief economist Europe at Bank of America Merrill Lynch Global Research, and chief economist France at Barclays Capital.
In her new position at AXA IM, she will also sponsor AXA IM's client relationships with sovereign wealth funds, central banks and state pension funds.
Based in Paris, she will lead a worldwide team of ten economist and investment strategists.
Chaney, who has been Chief Economist at AXA since 2008, is due to retire from his position in September.
Chairman and Chief Executive at AXA, Henri de Castries, said: "Eric is a fantastically sharp observer, analyst, and researcher of the world economy”.
"He has been instrumental in helping the group and AXA IM clients navigate through the financial crisis and the volatile macro environment we have experienced over the last few years”, he said.
He added, "I am absolutely delighted that Laurence has decided to join AXA. She is a leading economist, with a very strong track record at international organisations, leading financial institutions and more recently in her role of adviser to the French Presidency Office on world affairs”.
"I am confident that she will continue the excellent work done by Eric and his team in providing invaluable insight to our management committee as well as our investment managers and their clients."
