The Haunted Catacombs of Paris
Just feet below the beautiful city of romance is a sinister world. Said to house the gate to hell, the catacombs of Paris expand for over 400 miles. For every road above ground, there is a tunnel under it. The catacombs are a terrifying maze of bones and ghosts. A lone videographer was adventuring these tunnels trying to find the gate to hell. After he was files as missing by his friends, they decided to go and look for him in the last place they knew he was. The Haunted Catacombs of Paris.
The friends walked through the hallowed halls of the Paris Catacombs for around 6 hours, close to giving up they find an eerie sign of their friend. His video camera laying on the ground. The group of friends felt they must be close. They were stuck with a dilemma, their batteries were starting to run out and they still had the same walk back, if they were lucky enough to find their way, with what power they had left. They decided to search a little more in the area of the video camera.
The group eventually gave up as they started to fear for their own lives. They eventually made it out and soon set to work on unravelling the mystery of their friend. They played back the video from the camera and it showed a point of view shot of him walking around the catacombs, pausing every so often to study piles of bones. Upon closer inspection they were clearly human remains. After several hours of watching the video, the man starts walking faster, and eventually running with his breath getting ever louder. Then suddenly, the he drops the camera and you see feet disappearing into the distance. As the camera carries on filming until the tape is used up, you can start to understand why he eventually got scared and ran. The floor where the camera lay was human bones. As far as the camera could see, the floor was covered, possibly feet deep, in human bones.
Why are there so many human bones down there you may ask?
In 1785 the Parisians were facing a terrible situation, by where the toxic waste from decomposing bodies in improper burials was seeping into the ground, and poisoning the water supply. Disease was rife and people were dying quicker than during the black plague. To try and stem the spread of the diseases, the government decided to exhume all the bodies and move them to the catacombs. They did this discreetly under the cover of night. Eventually around 5 million bodies from all over Paris were exhumed and moved to the catacombs. This sheer number of improper burials is why so many people were getting sick.
The bodies and bones were just dumped in the catacombs and forgotten about. Nowadays you can arrange a guided tour round, as to enter the catacombs is foolhardy and there is a high chance you will never make it out alive. People record ghostly EVP’s and images with orbs with every entry into the catacombs. Tours have been cut short as people faint from the presence of ghosts and reports of people being touched or pushed by ghosts is outstandingly high. It is said that as the living walk forward through the catacombs, the dead follow closely behind in silence.
